In the Delta

Click to enlarge the picture One should also take the time to discover the delta in a mokoro (dugout canoe). The mokoro is operated by a poler who stands at the back of the mokoro and moves it forward by pushing a pole in the water. Some mokoros are leaking, and when you take place in it, the poler asks you to take off your shoes (so that if the mokoro sinks, you will be able to swim !!!)
After a 3-hour drive from Maun and a 1-hour mokoro ride, we reached the heart of the delta, were we pitched our tents (we spent 2 nights there). During the mokoro trip, we stopped once because two elephants wanted to cross the river… another time the local guides were a bit nervous, since we could hear (but not see) hippos somewhere around us !
